WHAT
I am an Industrial Designer
with a BSID from
University of the Arts
in Philadelphia.
Ever since I was young I have worked with my hands. My father and I would build pinewood derby cars and my mom exposed me to the world of M.C. Escher. This combination of building things and art with mathematics enriched my life in a truly unique way. I then went to school in Philadelphia for Industrial Design at University of the Arts to hone these skills. After graduation I worked for a local Philadelphia based custom bicycle manufacturer starting as a technician to rise to the rank of their Creative Director. My responsibilities went from handling all branding and graphics to working with clients on paint schemes for their bicycles to painting them myself. After leaving Elite Bicycles I moved onto a company now known as Curio, a parent company to Mobile Outfitters and Paw5. Here I was their Industrial Designer in charge of creating new products for each company. For Mobile Outfitters I built their custom made vinyl plotter for their retail locations. With Paw5 I helped create prototypes of their environment enrichment dog bowls. I have since moved on to freelance in Industrial and Graphic design as well as Brand Building!
WHY
Since I was younger I was drawn more to products that were not only utilitarian but clever in their design. Legos really showed me the how there were so many ways to accomplish building abstract ideas into physical ones. The first project I had when I was younger that brought me into the world of industrial design was in high school re-designing a backpack that was modeled after a parachute and had detachable straps(back packs at the time did not offer this option). I enjoyed the process of learning pattern making and researching hardware and sewing process of what it would take to make this product that I was hooked. Going to college and life I have looked to keep this idea of not only making something work well, but be clever and have the user want to use it and be tactually enjoyable.
